The Reckoning- BBC
|
All 4 parts available on Iplayer. A grim difficult watch, but have to say Coogan absolutely nailed it. Would absolutely be nailed on for a BAFTA it wasn't for the subject matter.

The BBC still milking Savile for money/views doesn't sit right with me.
Thankfully, I don't pay for the BBC licence anymore.

It looks really good. Coogan will of course nail it.
Agree re: the BBC making money off the back of it. They should pay anything they make to some sort of charitable fund seen as they at least part created this.

BBC didn't make this, they commisioned the series. ITV Studios were the production company.

Watched it and will stick with it. Coogan is great as the creepy cunt Hopefully there is an exploration of the BBC's culpability And we get to see Saviles bosum pals ... Thatcher & Prince (as was) Charles

Coogan is indeed a great actor, so despite this no doubt being a difficult watch, I will no doubt get onto it at some point.

Faux
Everyone was friends with him, from all sides of the political divides and all sorts of celebrities so to pick out just those 2 is a little disingenuous of you.

Everyone? MOST people thought he was a creepy weirdo
The PM of the day had him to Chequers for Christmas ... Thatcher & Savile at dinner , now there is a prospect That and the friendship with the now King was what made him bullet proof.

Started to watch, but he's such a vile character, there's so much to get angry about, I just didn't think I wanted to stick it out for four hours - especially as there was no justice at the end of it. There were people who were fooled by him, and people who weren't and let him get away with it. Two different types.

Looking back on the whole Savile thing, it seems that those far closer to the ends of the educational spectrum were far less able to accept that he was a nonce than those with a more balanced education.
He wanted to record an episode of Savile's Travels where I was doing my apprenticeship; the management announced it with aplomb and glee and were absolutely aghast with disbelief when every single worker there basically said "If he sets a foot in here, we're walking out." It was an open secret even back in 1973.
I believe they did eventually record the show at stupid o'clock with a scripted actor playing the part of a telephone engineer.
